OOTO
Sometimes tune into festival films and obscure indies. Or rip around on a ‘05 Harley Sportster, thrift or embroider. But I always chef. Hitting the farmers market for ingredients and cooking up something yummy is my consistent OOTO ritual.
More than anything, cooking grounds me in my and others’ culture, the moment in time, and a love of process. It’s a natural rush as I move through a recipe with tantalizing spikes of anxiety — Will I pull this off? Wait, did I buy enough of that? Shoot.
But once I settle into a process and plot my course, cooking becomes my personal hide away from life’s demands and distractions. I’m able to settle in and focus on the culture of the meal, the reasons it’s created, and the joy of the end result that I often share with those I love.
